Music Marketing

For the music marketing project, my group members and I were assigned the alternative genre. Alternative music is a very popular genre, so researching it was relatively easy. We had five song options to pick that fell under the alternative music category, and we picked The Man by The Killers. My group and I brainstormed ideas for the project. Our idea is for Mario, a member of our group, to start off as a poor man struggling, and then throughout the video, he starts doing better and ends up wealthy and happy. Each of our jobs is already planned out, and once we get back from our Thanksgiving break, we are ready and excited to work on the music video! 🥳🥳🥳

How is it science fiction?

Science fiction is a movie genre that mixes imagination with science and technology. It’s about exploring what could happen in the future, in space, or even on other planets. The main audience for this genre is usually teenagers and young adults, around ages 13 to 30, who like adventure and thinking about futuristic stuff. Sci-fi movies attract people who like to wonder about what could be real one day, like aliens, robots, and time travel. Sometimes the stories even teach lessons about how humans might act if we had that kind of power or tech.

Science fiction movies usually include futuristic settings, advanced machines, or some kind of new discovery that changes everything. They often show what might happen if humans take technology too far. For example, in Interstellar, people have to travel through space to find a new planet for humans to live on. It shows how science can be used to save us but also how dangerous it can be. Sci-fi also likes to ask big questions about what’s real and what’s not. Some of them even mix in emotional parts so it’s not just about space or robots, it’s also about people and their choices.

Sci-fi movies use lots of special effects and CGI to make everything look realistic, even if it’s not possible in real life. They use cool lighting, sometimes blue or silver, to make things feel high-tech. The sound design is also really important. There’s usually a lot of humming machines, robotic sounds, or space noises that make you feel like you’re somewhere new. Camera shots are often really wide to show big spaceships or planets. The costumes and props are also futuristic, like metal suits or helmets that look super advanced. Sometimes it almost feels like you’re watching something that could happen in 100 years.

Sci-fi movies are usually marketed in a way that gets people curious. The posters often show space, stars, or one person staring out into the unknown, which makes you wonder what’s out there. Trailers use fast cuts, big explosions, and deep dramatic music to grab people’s attention. Most sci-fi movies are shared online a lot, especially through youtube or tiktok ads. The main audience is people who already like action or adventure films, but sci-fi usually brings in people who like to think, too. The marketing almost always focuses on the visuals because they look so amazing.

The Martian is about an astronaut named Mark Watney (Matt Damon) who gets stuck on mars after a bad storm. He has to figure out how to stay alive by using science and his smarts. This movie shows science fiction really well because it’s based on something that could actually happen, but still feels like a fantasy. The movie uses bright orange lighting to show mars and dark shadows to show the emptiness. The story is about survival, but also about hope and teamwork, which is seen in a lot of sci-fi films too.

Avatar takes place on a planet called Pandora where humans try to take resources from the planet. The movie uses amazing CGI and motion capture to make everything look real, even though none of it is. The glowing plants, flying animals, and tall blue aliens make the world look alive. It also has a message about nature and protecting the environment, which adds to the story. Avatar is a perfect example of sci-fi because it mixes adventure, fantasy, and technology all together. The trailers and posters focused a lot on the visuals, which is what made so many people want to see it.

 For our last project, we had to create a story video based off a word using no sound. Our video had to be shot using different shots and angles to emphasize the word we are trying to demonstrate. It had to be 1-1 1/2 minutes long and we need to turn in a brainstorming sheet, a 15-slide storyboard, and then edit the video and submit it.

We showed arrogance by creating a story where one character acts like they’re better than everyone else. We listed ideas for scenes that clearly show arrogant behavior. The storyboard helped us plan each shot and how the story would flow. We used Adobe Express to edit the video. Next time we’d improve our camera angles and timing.

For the camera shots quiz assignment, we had to tell a story using different types of shots with only 15 pictures. 

For our story, we used inspiration from the TikTok highlighter/makeup/Skittle stories that we had seen and made up a storyline. Our story was about highlighters from space who came to planet "Cypress Bay" and then died when a student stepped on them. 

I think we did a good job doing the shots and angles, but we could've done a better job with the pictures if we had had a little more time to take them, but because we were short on time, we were a little rushed. We also drew facial expressions on the highlighters, but for the scared expression, they kind of just looked angry, so I would have liked to have done better faces.
